The Rangers of the Eastern Troop have chosen to aid the staff of Fort Yargo State Park in repairing and restoring the Blockhouse at Fort Yargo. We have agreed to schedule work days and make the repairs using period tools and techniques whenever possible.
These pictures were made during our first workday, during which we built and installed a much needed central brace under the floor of the blockhouse.

With the beam cut to length and the joint reinforced, we moved the beam into it's place under the floor. Then using a set of jacks, we were able to raise the beam into it's place and set large timber braces under it to support the floor.
We discovered that some of the old floor joists had sagged over 3", and didn't even touch the flooring! Now, you can walk across the floor and not feel like you're dancing on drumhead!
Many thanks to Tom, Omer, Ed, Ken, Will, Chris, Madison, Zack and Dan!
